We got together yesterday to do the first half of her outdoor session at her mom and dad’s home on Lake Pokegama here in Grand Rapids (although the city limit sign did say we were in Cohasset MN).

The property features some really cool rock formations, red pine forest and of course that nice sandy beach! I think we managed to avoid all the poison ivy in the woods and despite my assistant claiming the killer minnows were going after his feet – I think we had a pretty good session. Of course when you are a natural beauty like Lynn – pretty much any image of her is going to be golden!

This fall’s Super Monday class will be on October 24 2011. As a twist, I decided to host this one at my friend Mary Johnson’s studio down in Burnsville.  I can’t begin to tell you how blessed I have been to have all these wonderful photographers come to Grand Rapids for a day’s education – so I am returning the favor by going down to the cities.

This event is entitled “Foundations: Composition, Posing & Exposure” One of the biggest struggles I see that photographers have these days is posing. They simply do not know where to begin – or – hide behind “documentary” style photography (which does have it’s place) as a means of spinning a negative into a positive. We will kick off the morning with over 35 rules of good portraiture which will contribute towards our building blocks into posing 101. Basic things you can do with your subjects to take your photography to a whole other level.Along the way we will also work with composition and Everyone’s favorite – nailing exposure.

In the afternoon, we will take the imagery from the morning and build a Lightroom library from the ground up. Once complete, I will share my entire workflow start to finish INCLUDING in and out of photoshop. We will wrap things up with a little studio management workflow to make sure you are maximizing your time with each and every client and recording important data.

This is going to be an action packed day!

During his mini-session, AJ was the strong silent type. His girlfriend Kayleigh tagged along and managed to coax a smile out of him here and there – but for the most part AJ played it cool and close to the vest.

With summer vacation winding down and football season starting up I am sure we will get some more great portraits of this all-star in his own environment and a few others too!

Big beautiful blue sky and lots of puffy white clouds, moderate temperature and a breeze to keep the bugs down. The love this couple share’s for one another is something else!

It’s amazing how things come together. I met Donna through her daughter Heather who is a member of the newly formed Iron Range Maiden’s roller derby team for which I do team and individual photos. I put the casting call out for 2012 High School Senior Models and Heather answered for her beautiful daughter Courtney. We did Courtney’s test session and made a slideshow of it. Donna loved it and she called me to set up a time to meet about her wedding. [whew!]

I kidnapped the bride and groom before the ceremony and went to a couple of locations around town. So until today, none of the other family members or guests have seen what we were up to. So lets get on with the sneak peak!
